Boarding Australia (BA) began life in 1993 as the National Association for Rural Student Accommodation (NARSA), as an initiative of the Commonwealth Government to support boarding providers, particularly those in rural settings and those delivering stand-alone boarding services (i.e. boarding hostels, residences and group homes. It is a leading association providing leadership, strategy, advocacy, and support to boarding schools and residential colleges for school aged students across Australia. In doing so they provide life-changing access to education for remote and regional indigenous students.
In recent years, Boarding Australia has strengthened its focus on Indigenous student boarding, issues facing remote communities and the needs of staff in non-traditional boarding programs (that is, hostels, residences, group homes). Quality and standards in boarding are an ongoing priority for Boarding Australia.
